The stock dead pedal on E46 BMW's is simply
a plain plastic piece with no accents. This can easily
be upgraded either by drilling on an aftermarket plate
or simply installing the M3's dead pedal with aluminum
trim and "M" logo. This will enhance the pedal
area of your vehicle and will look especially good along
with aftermarket aluminum pedals. |

Installation
Instructions |
| Step 1 - The first thing you need to do
is remove the hood release lever from the stock dead pedal.
Do this using your screwdriver. Once the lever is removed
you will find a second screw in the area the lever was
covering. Remove this screw as well. |
| |
|
| Step 2 -
After you have removed the screws from above the next
step is to loosen the interior trim panel along the
lower door sill. Be careful not to give to much force
as you dont want to break the clips that hold the trim
panel in place. Basicall you just need to lift it up
enough to let you remove the dead pedal.
|
|
|
| Step 3 - The next step
is to loosen the black panel underneath the steering
wheel. You can remove it completely if you choose to
but this is not a necessary procedure in most cases.
Start with the three screws located by the yellow arrows
in the picture below. Along with these screws you will
also find one screw behind the pedals and two clips
located underneath the steering wheel. |
|
|
|
| Step 4 - At the bottom
of the center console there is one final connector you
need to loosen. |
|
|
| Step 5 - After the panel
has been loosened you can now focus on the actual dead
pedal. The next thing to do is pull the dead pedal over
the trim piece that runs up the door jamb. Right near
the door panel you loosened in step 2. |
|
|
| Step 6 - After you have
finished the step above you need to release the clip
on the pedal trim panel that connects it to the black
panel you have already loosened or removed. To do this
pull the upper trim panel towards you and push the pedal
trim away from you and down to disengage the clip. Below
is a picture of the back of the original dead pedal.
It shows the two clips that hold the panel in place.
It might take a little bit of wiggling to get the piece
out but it helpds to pull towards the center and towards
the rear of the car at the same time. Once it releases
be sure not to pull it too hard as you still need to
disconnect the trunk release button that is still connected! |
|
|
| Step 7 - Unclip the trunk release button
from the harness and remove the dead pedal. The next thing
to do is remove the trunk release button and insert it
into your new dead pedal. Simply push in the two metal
clips on the side and push it through the panel.. |
|
|
| Step 8 - Finally reverse the procedure to
insert in your new M3 dead pedal. This part seems to be
much easier than the removal procedure. Be sure you dont
forget to connect the trunk relase button before you fully
put the dead pedal in place. Enjoy your new dead pedal! |
