Regular maintenance like oil changes are
crucial to your cars well being. We recommend changing
your oil every 3000 - 5000 miles or even more often under
harsh driving conditions. Learning how to change your
oil yourself will not only save you time and money but
will also ensure you are using quality synthetic oils
and materials which repair shops may not always use. We
recommend using Mobil 1 Synthetic Oil for maximum performance
and protection. |

| Instructions |
Gather all
the necessary tools and equipment.
The Oil Filter kit includes a new oil filter, a new
rubber gasket for the oil filter compartment, and a
new metal washer for the oil drain plug. |
|
|
Remove the oil filler
cap shown in the top picture at the right.
Raise the front end of the car and secure with jack
stands.
Use a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the cover
to the oil drain compartment shown in the bottom picture
at the right.
|
|
|
|
| Locate the drain plug shown in the top picture
at the right. The drain plug visible from the passengers
side of the car.
Place the catch basin under this point and remove the
drain plug using the 17 MM wrench . Drain the oil completely
as shown in the picture on the right. You may want to
lower the car to make sure all the old oil is drained.
Once the oil is drained, replace the metal washer on
the drain plug with the new one included in the filter
kit as shown in the bottom picture. Replace the oil
drain plug and torque to 25 Nm (18.5 ft lbs). |
|
|
| Using the 36 MM wrench, loosen the oil filter
cap shown in the top picture at the right. You may want
to wrap the mating surface of the 36 MM "Nut"
at the top of the cover once with electrical tape to avoid
marring the plastic with the wrench.
Remove the oil filter cap (use a cloth to catch any
dripping oil). With the oil filter cap removed, replace
the rubber gasket with the new one included in the filter
kit as shown in the middle picture on the right. Be
sure to coat the new gasket with a little oil.
Remove the old filter shown in the bottom picture and
replace with the new one (use a cloth to catch any dripping
oil). The part number was on the top of mine, so that's
what I used as the top but I don't think it matters
much.
With the new filter in place, replace the oil filter
cap and torque to 25 Nm (18.5 ft lbs). |
|
|
| Using a funnel, add your new oil. I
added about 4.5 quarts of oil then started the engine
(replace the oil filler cap first). Let the engine warm
up and check for leaks. If none exist, shut off the
engine and replace the oil drain compartment cover.
Lower the car carefully and check the engine oil level.
Add oil accordingly. Make sure not to overfill. (Note:
I actually only needed 5 ½ quarts even though
the specs. state 6.9. Yes, I did let it drain until
no more came out. I even lowered the car back down to
try and get it all.)
Clean everything up and be sure to recycle the used
oil (usually free at most local garages).
